Textbooks and Technology

Textbook Lending Library

The Basic Needs Center Textbook Lending Library contains physical copies of course-required textbooks and supplies for some classes.

Available for free term-long loans:

  • Textbooks
  • Chemistry Goggles, Lab Coats, Molecule Kits
  • Chemistry Lab Notebooks
  • Graphing and Scientific Calculators

Find copies of your book

Look up your course materials on the bookstore website. State law requires that all materials to sell to students for class use be listed on the bookstore website. (If materials are not listed we can have a peer conversation about strategy to find them.)

After looking up your materials on the bookstore website, you can check to see if and where there are copies available to access for free. This may be digitally or a physical copy.

The Valley Library website can provide this information. There might be multiple copies located at different locations like The Valley Library, OSU Cascades, or Online Access, but the books that say “Available at Basic Needs Center Textbook Lending Program” are the only ones available to be checked out for term-long loans. For step-by-step instructions on how to navigate the catalog, view the steps below:

1. Visit the Valley Library website

  1. Select Course Reserves

  1. Type info in the search box. Type in the course code of the textbook you are searching for (COMM 114, BI 101, etc. ), title, or author. (See image 1).

Textbook library order request

Students can put in a request for materials to be added to the Basic Needs Center Textbook Lending Library.

The request form is available in the footer at the bottom of our website. It opens for a window around 2 weeks before the end of each term and closes by the end of week 10. This can change. Please check with us.

When you request a book, we evaluate the request to see if it can be filled.

If yes, then the book is ordered and put on hold for you to be the first user of the book for a term long loan. You will receive an email about the status of your request.

Books are available the first week of the term for pick up.

Beavs give back - donate books

Thank you for helping other Beavers gain access to their books. It is the participation of the BNC community that makes this program successful.

Drop off textbook donations at the BNC anytime. Visit the front desk or put them in the book drop near the front door outside.

We are happy to take recent and current textbooks for courses. Please write the course number on a note inside the front cover - this makes it easier for the team to put the book into the catalog. We put a 'Beavs give back' sticker on donated books.

Students, staff, and faculty are welcome to donate books.

If you have questions about book donations please email [email protected]

Textbook library feedback

We value constructive feedback to help us make improvements in our collection and program. If you have information that would help us steward this collection, let us know. We like to hear if a book edition is no longer useful, if the book for a course has changed, if a book needs repair, or something else.

Please let us know in person at the front desk or by emailing [email protected]

Laptop Loan Program

The Basic Needs Center additionally offers laptop loans for students through Media Hub. This resource is limited to students at most two terms per academic year and requires a Peer Conversation with a Peer Navigator to determine eligibility. Due to limited laptop supply, we also cannot guarantee there will always be laptops available for checkout.

If you are interested in learning more about or utilizing this program, feel free to call in or stop by the center to see if we have laptops available for checkout!
