Centering leadership development
Our world needs more leaders - this is why leadership development is baked into the student employee experience at the Basic Needs Center. Our future needs OSU graduates to grow communities where everyone has a place to belong, everyone has a pathway to participation - leadership development builds this skillset.
Peer Navigators plan events and workshops that build our community and grow skills connected to basic needs. Students involved with the center gain important career-relevant skills connected to problem-solving, critical thinking and communication.
Leadership Lab
Each week, the BNC has a free leadership development workshop; students from the BNC community are welcome to drop in anytime to grow your leadership skills and engage in conversation and activities about collaboration, community, team-building, and communication.
Leadership activities and discussions with other students hosted by the BNC director build leadership skills. They are another way to be involved - to contribute your ideas and learn what the BNC community is about.
Leadership Lab often involves dialogue, small-group discussions, interactive team-builders, and communication games. Themes include how to:
- build effective claims
- influence use of time and resources in communities
- build and understand social capital
- engage in collaborative, intentional work rooted in values and common purpose toward change
